Associate Researcher
Dr. Jeanne Marie NTETE is a Rwandan Senior Lecturer and Clinical Psychologist at the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences (UR-CMHS), with over 25 years of experience in teaching, research, clinical practice, and community engagement in the field of mental health. She holds a PhD in Counselling Psychology from Kenyatta University (Kenya), an MSc/DEA in Clinical Psychology and Psychopathology from Université Paris 8 Saint-Denis (France), a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the former National University of Rwanda, a Postgraduate Certificate in Global Mental Health (Trauma and Recovery) from the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma and Harvard Medical School, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision from the University of Rwanda. Her work focuses on trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), gender-based violence, and psychosocial recovery in post-conflict contexts, particularly related to the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications examining topics such as narrative therapy and group therapy for orphans and vulnerable children, psychological healing among women survivors of sexual violence, childhood trauma and depression among orphaned youth, parental alcoholism and youth behavioral outcomes, marital beliefs and relationship commitment, and the impact of community-based interventions. In addition to her research contributions, Dr. NTETE teaches undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses in psychology, trauma treatment, and research methods, supervises student dissertations, and contributes to curriculum and training module development in areas including school counseling, gender-based violence, and reproductive health counseling. She also plays key leadership and community roles, serving as Chair of the Subcommittee on Disputes and Disciplinary Compliance of the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Africa (ACPA), a Gender Champion at UR-CMHS, while actively contributing to peacebuilding initiatives, mentorship of young professionals, and advocacy for vulnerable populations in Rwanda.
