Director

Isabelle Blanchette has been a full professor at the School of Psychology at Université Laval since September 2019. She earned her PhD from McGill University in 2000 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Birkbeck College, University of London. She began her career as a professor at the University of Manchester from 2002 to 2008 and later worked at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières until 2019. She is the Co-founder of the Observatoire PSYCAVI (Psychological Impacts of Armed Conflicts and Intergroup Violence).

Within the PSYCAVI observatory, Isabelle Blanchette continues to study the link between cognition and emotions experimentally, using behavioral, psychophysiological, and electrophysiological measures. Her main expertise lies in the effect of emotions on reasoning, particularly in studies focusing on short-term memory (STM) and executive functions after the 1994 Rwandan genocide of the Tutsis.

She also investigates the impact of highly emotional and potentially traumatic experiences on cognition. She has been particularly interested in the cognitive correlates of experiences such as sexual assaults, armed conflicts, and intergroup violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
