Clémentine Kanazayire

Clémentine Kanazayire is a professor of social psychology and a research fellow in the Department of Mental Health at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Rwanda.

Holding a doctorate from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Clémentine Kanazayire has dedicated her career to working with vulnerable populations, including survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi, perpetrators of the genocide and their families, as well as victims of gender-based violence. Her work has led to the theorization and scientific evaluation of endogenous solutions such as ‘Ndi umunyarwanda (“I am Rwandan”), the Reconciliation Village Model, and the Ubumwe Guided Dialogue Space, with the aim of improving their effectiveness.

Her research focuses on mental health, peacebuilding, social identity, post-genocide reconciliation, collective memory, trauma, psychosocial support, gender-based violence, and behavior change. She also contributed to the evaluation of projects aimed at mental health, social cohesion, autonomy and economic stability led by civil society organizations.
